Lost and Found

On Wednesday, tables are being set up in our hallway outside the library with the items in our Lost and Found box. Students will be given opportunity over the next few days to visit the tables and claim any lost items.

We Our One Voice Concert – Wednesday December 19

This is a reminder invite to families whose children are performing in our We Our One Voice concert Wednesday evening. Letters were sent home with the students outlining the details of the evening. You will be entertained with singing, dancing, recorder and a grand finale “Together We Can Change the World”. If your child is not attending, please inform the classroom teacher. The students, teachers and Mrs. Taravati have been practicing to ‘show-off’ their performances. We look forward to an exciting evening!

Project Give Back

A big thank you to Mrs. Benlolo’s class for developing and organizing ‘Project Give Back’. The students began the planning process of locating a food shelter, reviewing with the contact our sanitary methods, creating a budget, researching cost effective products and location of purchase, preparing the letter home to our amazing Henderson families and finally setting up and supervising the day of.

The goal was to prepare 500 sandwiches, however, with the funds raised they were able to prepare 1000 sandwiches for Flemingdon Park Ministry’s drop in program and meal program that supports many of newcomer families particularly in the Flemingdon Park/North York Community.  Students were able to learn and understand that not too far from us and even around us, we have families with invisible poverty who are struggling to make end meet.  The students worked collaboratively and conversation such as “we want to make beautiful sandwiches,” were part of their discussions.  Students included personalized holiday cards onto each and every sandwich.

We are so very proud of our grades 5-8 students at Henderson Avenue!! Keep Spreading the Kindness, you are making a difference.

Thank you!

We’d like to thank our families for their donations to the Thornhill Assistance Program. The organizers were overwhelmed with the generosity of our community.   The photo below is just 1 of 3 carts full of the donations. Our intermediate students were quite proud of Henderson Ave P.S. when they were helping sort the items at the location Thursday afternoon.

Henderson Supporting Christmas Assistance Program to help out Families in Need.

The Christmas Assistance Program is a non-denomination program run by the United Church on Elgin and Yonge. This year, Henderson is participating not only by bringing in donations but our intermediate students will be spending an afternoon helping to sort the items collected at the site.

We kindly ask our families to donate non-perishable food items,  new toiletries and new toys (in original wrapping). Any donation will be greatly appreciated by many families within our Thornhill/Markham community in need.

All items collected will be picked up at the school on December 12.

Thank you for your support and contribution this holiday season.

Sincerely,

The Henderson Ave. Team

Winter Activity Day Jan 17 2019

We are very excited to have the opportunity again this year for students to experience an activity “fun” day.  All students from Gr 4-8 received an information letter today detailing the activities available to chose for the day. Please note that there is a limited space assigned to each activity (bus/venue related) and it is on a  first come basis that students will secure a spot. We are accepting cash online applications only. If you need support setting up cash online, please contact Mrs. Webster and she will be happy to assist. You can even come into the school to set up your account. Once your child(ren)’s registration is complete, we will be sending home any waivers, if required, and YRDSB permission forms. Our hope is to have everything completed before the winter break so your timely return of any forms is appreciated.

We are always looking for volunteers so if you are available, please tell the office.
